Here’s what AFRED can do for you!

Here’s what people are saying about AFRED

The partnership I formed through AFRED gave me interesting and challenging tasks to work on and was an improvement to my career.

–Randal Power, Lead of the Innovative Product Development Centre for the Office of Applied Research, College of the North Atlantic

I used AFRED to do product research on equipment I needed to purchase for my lab. With the resulting information I was able to make the best decision by picking the right piece of equipment.

–Professor Tamara Franz-Odendaal, Department of Biology, Mount Saint Vincent University

We use AFRED to promote collaboration between our researchers and other departments on campus.  It is an added bonus that other universities in Atlantic Canada can see our listings.

— Tyler Gallant, Lead Experimental Engineer, Faculty of Sustainable Design Engineering, University of Prince Edward Island

I’ve been able to utilize an instrument in another province that I wouldn’t have known about if not for AFRED.

— Keith Brunt, Associate Professor, Department of Pharmacology, Dalhousie University

The information is very well organized and easy to find what you need.

–Zuzana Istvankova, Research Administration Officer, Cape Breton University

In addition to advertising the availability of the instrument, AFRED enabled me to consolidate the technical information in one convenient location.

–Christian Lacroix, Department of Biology, University of Prince Edward Island

The biggest benefit is knowing what’s outside your field; Planetary Sciences is not somewhere I would have reached out to as a medical person but they had equipment I needed.

–Keith Brunt, Associate Professor, Department of Pharmacology, Dalhousie University

I’ve received a few inquiries that led to graduate students in different departments/faculties using my scanning electron microscope to characterize their products.

–Christian Lacroix, Department of Biology, University of Prince Edward Island

Update: September 18, 2020

Thanks to the generosity of IMPART, AFRED.ca will be available for the next several months while we continue to investigate options for its continuation.  Please let me know if you are interested in being part of this discussion.

August 12, 2020

Over the past few years, advances in other online software services have outpaced AFRED, and as a result, the Science Atlantic board has made the difficult decision to retire the database, effective September 20, 2020.

Science Atlantic’s mandate is to support post-secondary science education and research in Atlantic Canada and we will refocus our time and resources on projects that more directly benefit science students, faculty members, and researchers in the region.

We are grateful for the support of our partners, member institutions, and the research offices and individuals who shared equipment, space, and knowledge throughout this project.

For more information, please read the post on our Science Atlantic blog.

Thank you again for your support of AFRED.
