Equipment
This automated, continuous flow, analysis measures Nitrite, Nitrate, Phosphate, Silicate, and Ammonia. Chemical reagents and samples, segmented with air bubbles, are pumped through a manifold to undergo treatment such as mixing, heating, etc. before entering a flow cell to be detected with either colorimetric detection (with optical background correction) or a fluorometer (Ammonia).
Research Facility
The cycling of the three key chemical controls on life in the ocean (carbon, oxygen, & nitrogen) is undergoing unprecedented change in the oceans as a result of human activities. We aim to observe, understand, and predict complex interactions within these biogeochemical cycles, which will help us understand the implications of these changes for marine life and the climate.
The CERC.OCEAN laboratory is focused on chemical oceanography and in the measurement of greenhouse gases, such as nitrous oxide, carbon dioxide and halocarbons. The laboratory is equipped with high-tech instruments, such as isotope ratio mass spectrometers, gas chromatographs, cavity ring down spectrometers and nutrient autoanalyzer.
