Equipment
Centrifugation of samples at extremely high speeds, (i.e. 150,000 RPM). Common applications include surcrose gradients for viral particle isolation, isolation of extracellular vesicles, pelleting of proteins, RNA, mitochondria, etc.
Maximum acheivable speed: 150,000 RPM (1,000,000 x g)
Refrigerated and Biosafe design.
Two swinging bucket rotors;
MLS 50 (4 x 5 mL tubes, max rcf=268,000 x g)
TLS 55 (4 x 2.2 mL tubes, max rcf=259,000 x g)
Research Facility
The Derfalvi Lab is a research lab within the Dalhousie Dept. of Pediatrics focusing on inflammatory and autoimmune research in pediatrics. Our lab is located within the IWK Hospital in Halifax. Our research focuses on microRNA changes that are associated inflammatory and autoimmue diseases, and the potential use of microRNA as biomarkers of disease, and response to treatment. We are also interested in determining the functional consequences of microRNA dysregulation with an intense focus on natural killer cells in particular.
