The facility has five instruments to cover for a wide range of applications, from high resolution mass determination of large organic molecules, to separation, quantitation and identification of organic compounds with a number of sample introduction options ionization sources and analyzer types to allow analysis over a large mass range from small molecules to large proteins and for different compound chemistries.

The instruments currently in the facility are:

  1. GC-MS (EI) with a quadrupole analyser
  2. GC- MS (EI/CI) with a quadrupole analyser
  3. HPLC-UV/VIS with options for normal and reverse chromatography
  4. HPLC-UV/VIS-MS (TOF) with Dual ESI and APPI ionization sources
    The TOF (time of flight) analyser provides high sensitivity and resolution for accurate mass determination of small and large organic molecules. Normal or reverse phase chromatography options.
  5. CE-UV/VIS with option for coupling to the MS (TOF)

Reverse phase chromatography columns are available for use in the HPLC-UV/MS applications. The full list is available on the website.

Potential users of the facility are encouraged to meet with the operator prior to training to discuss the scope and nature of their work to determine the most appropriate instrument choice.

HPLC-UV/VIS-MS (TOF)
Agilent
1260 Infinity HPLC - 1260DAD - 6230B TOF-MS

The Agilent  HPLC-MS 6230B Time-of-Flight system delivers full-spectrum, high-resolution, accurate-mass data for screening, profiling and identifying small molecules, large biologic compounds, and everything in between.

  • HPLC is equipped with a quaternary pump for reversed phase chromatography and an isocratic pump for normal phase chromatography.
  • The maximum operating pressure is 600bar.
  • A suite of reverse phase columns are available for use.
  • The HPLC is equipped with a UV/VIS 1260 diode array detector (wavelength range 190-600nm) and a TOF-MS (an orthogonal time-of-flight analyzer).
  • Two ionization sources are available for use: Dual-ESI (Electrospray) and APPI (Atmospheric Pressure Photoionization).
  • Ion detection can be carried out in positive, negative and fast polarity switching modes.
  • Two sample introduction modes are available: LC and direct injection.
  • The software used is MassHunter Workstation version B.05.01.

HPLC-UV/VIS

Agilent 1100 HPLC - G1315B UV/VIS

The Agilent 1100 Series HPLC is a very popular and robust LC system. Our HPLC is coupled with a multiwavelength UV/VIS detector for easy, cost effective separation and quantitation of your UV/VIS active compounds.

  • The HPLC is equipped with a quaternary pump for reversed phase chromatography and an isocratic pump for normal phase chromatography.
  • A suite of reverse phase columns are available for use.
  • The maximum operating pressure is 400bar.
  • Detection and quantitation are carried out with a UV-VIS multiwavelength detector (wavelength range 190-600nm) that allows monitoring up to five different wavelengths simultaneously without sacrificing sensitivity.
  • The software used is ChemStation for LC 3D Rev.A.10.02 [1757].

GC-MS (EI)

6890N GC - 5973 inert MSD EI

The Agilent GC-MS with EI is your go-to instrument in terms of sensitivity, retention time repeatability, high throughput (up to 100 vials ALS) and reliability for the analysis of a wide range of volatile and semivolatile compounds.

The EI ionization enables matching the obtained MS spectra to a library of spectra for quick compound identification.

  • The GC is coupled with a 7683 AutoSampler with a 100 vial tray capacity.
  • Split/splitless injection is possible.
  • The GC is equipped with a DB-5MS column: non-polar with low bleed characteristics, 30m length, 0.250mm diameter, 0.25um film thickness, temperature limits -60 to 325 degrees celsius.
  • The GC is interfaced to a single quadrupole 5973 inert MSD with a mass range of 1.6 - 800 Da.
  • Scan and SIM (single ion monitoring) modes are available with positive ion detection.
  • The software used is MSD ChemStation D.01.00 Build 75.

CE-UV/VIS

The Agilent 7100 CE-UV/VIS enables fast separations with excellent efficiency and resolution for charged compounds ranging from inorganic ions to large polymers or proteins.

  • Equipped with a UV-VIS diode array detector (wavelength range 190-600 nm)
  • The CE-UV/VIS can be used in standalone mode or, for larger projects, can be interfaced with the Agilent 6200 series MS (TOF)
  • The software used is OpenLAB CDS chemstation edition for CE and CE/MS systems Rev.C.01.05(43)

GC-MS (EI/CI)

7890A GC – 5975C MSD Inert XL EI/CI

The Agilent GC-MS (EI/CI) is a popular instrument that delivers a superior performance, reliability, higher sensitivity and better productivity for the analysis of an extensive list of volatile and semi-volatile compounds.

The option of switching from EI to CI ionization adds enhanced selectivity and flexibility in method development  and analysis for a wide range of applications.
 

 

  • GC has a split/splitless injector, with a  7683 Autosampler with a 100 vial tray.
  • The GC is equipped with a Phenomenex Zorbax ZB-5MSplus column: low polarity for a wide range of separations with low bleed characteristics, 30m length, 0.25mm I.D., 0.25um film thickness, temperature limits: -60-325 degrees Celsius.
  • The GC is interfaced to a single quadrupole 5973 inert MSD with a mass range of 1.6 - 800 Da.
  • Scan and SIM( single ion monitoring ) modes available with positive ion detection.
