Research Facility
Our facility operates several Flow Cytometers, currently three analyzers and two sorters. At a basic level flow cytometers allow you to tag surface, or internal markers of cells with Fluorochrome labels that are exited by a range of possible lasers emitting signals over a range of particular wavelengths. Data is processed such that expression of panels of markers can be quantified in a relative manner on a single cell basis at hundreds to thousands of cells per second.
Clients of our core use flow cytometry to phenotype and quantify populations of cells in their particular biological field of study, most often immunological and pathological processes. With our two sorting Flow Cytometers it is also possible to physically separate and collect identified populations of cells for use in further characterization or use in downstream experiments.

The Fluidigm C1 is a single cell genomics tool which captures single cells in 96-800 individual sites by means of microfluidics technology. Often paried with preparation by traditional Flow Cytometric sorting (in the case of mixed cell types) the C1 allows lysis, reverse transcription, and cDNA pre amplification for downstream sequencing or qPCR from single cells. The primary application is for single cell transcriptomics.
